When YOB announced their comeback in 2008 (after the fallout that befell Middian and subsequently the unraveling of Age Eternal, the band that was the result of Middian being “forced” to change their name), the timing for them couldn’t have been more fitting since doom metal was on the rise and YOB’s status within the doom metal scene had already reached legendary levels. So when YOB released their comeback album, 2009’s “The Great Cessation”, the demand for America’s most prominent doom metal band was at its height and in turn, “The Great Cessation” was acclaimed worldwide as pretty much the best doom metal album to be released in 2009 and the buzz for YOB would continue to grow, culminating in even outlets like The New York Times claiming YOB as one of the best bands in America today.
